The Himachal Pradesh Marketing Board now the Himachal Pradesh State Agricultural Marketing Board was established in the
year 1972, in order to regulate the sale, purchase, storage, processing and to establish the regulated markets for
agricultural produce in Himachal Pradesh, 'The Himachal Pradesh Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1969' was enacted and
enforced in the state with effect from 25th March, 1970, which was repealed and a new Act the Himachal Pradesh Agricultural
and Horticultural Produce Marketing (Development and Regulation) Act, 2005 (Act No.20 of 2005) was re-enacted with effect
from 26.05.2005, to provide for improved regulation in marketing of Agricultural Produce, development of efficient marketing
system, promotion of Agri-processing and agricultural exports, establishment of private markets/yards, consumer/farmer markets
for direct sale and promotion of public-private partnership in the management and development of agricultural markets in the
State. Ten Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMC's) have been established in the State under the Act. The H.P. State
Agricultural Marketing Board exercises superintendence and control over the A.P.M.Cs.
